Finishing a Dress...

I am a part-time nanny/babysitter to two precious little children. A. is going to be 4 in January and her brother, J., is 17 months. They come over to my house several days a week and we play and do fun activities. Today, A. and I were playing in my sewing room while J. napped. Then out of the blue she asks, "Are you ever going to wear that dress with the flowers on it?" and points to the dress on my dress form. I answered her by saying, "I will whenever I finish sewing it." A. then says, "Oh, well its been on there a for while."

I guess that since it has been over a year, I should really try get the dress finished. I need to make some alterations in the waist, finish the buttons on the front, and hem it. I also need to finish my sister's placemats I was making her for her birthday (last march). Hopefully, I can finish them before her next birthday.

Anyway, I thought that I would share my embarrassment about my unfinished project. Nothing like a 3 year old to make you feel guilty for not getting it finished yet.

Apples Galore...

I hope that you have had a great Tuesday. Mine was good but very busy (as usual). I watched the two year old (AK) today and we had fun making some goodies to bring up to my DH's work. We had company over for dinner and I had to do some quick tidying up before our company came but after AK left.

Last night I took took 8 lbs. of apples and turned them into 3 quarts of applesauce. I used Honeycrisp apples and my DH really liked the way it tasted. My DH doesn't like sweet applesauce but slightly tart so the Honeycrisp apples were a good choice.

Today, AK and I took the apples below and the contents of the pot...







and turned them into...

Caramel Apples.

Mrs. Wilt, over at The Sparrow's Nest, had a post about the caramel apples that she made. When I saw hers, I was just dying to try to make my own. So I did, with the "supervision" of AK.

We made plain caramel, caramel rolled in pecan pieces, caramel rolled in mini semi-sweet chocolate chips, and caramel rolled in nut topping.



























I wrapped them in Cling Wrap and then tied them with a piece of raffia. I brought them up to my DH's office and they were a big hit. I am very excited that they turned out so well and yummy!

I have about 12 more pounds of apples to put up tomorrow. I am going to put up some apple pie filling and some Pecan-Apple Waffles. After that, I don't think I will have any more posts about apples.

By the way, I thought that I would share the picture advertisment below just for laughs. My mom sent me this picture and I just completely cracked up laughing. It is amazing what using the right kind of conditioner can do to your hair. I hope you get a chuckle out of this.

Muddy Puppy...

Our dog Dozer has been making quite a mess the last couple of day. He has taken to digging out the rocks that sit below our A/C condensation run-off line. As a result, he has been making a mess in the mud and coming to the back door looking like he is in camouflage.

A Valentine's Day Funny...

On Valentine's Day my DH bought me a bouquet of roses. My DH said, he had bought the roses on the way to work and left them in the truck for a few hours (we have had cold weather). When he got into the truck he said it stunk to high heaven and when he smelt the roses he realized the reason it stunk. However, by the time he realized it, it was too late to return them on Valentine's Day.

When he came home he told me, "Well, you were going to get roses for Valentine's Day, but smell these. " He proceeded to hand me my roses to smell. As my nose got close, I smelt something equivalent of something dead. So on Thursday we went back to the store to return them because we thought maybe a frog was up in them and died or something. It was awful. Then the girl that worked there told us it was the Misty Limonium that was a filler in the roses. She told us it has a strong, stinky odor and that was what we were smelling. They still gave him the money back.

I was with him and he asked me if I wanted to pick out some more flowers, I told him that I would prefer to buy a flowery wreath for my front door instead. So for Valentine's Day my DH bought me a wreath I liked a JoAnne's. Now I will have this Valentine's flowers for months to come.
