Some Values to Pass On...

Hi everybody!

Thanks for all of the compliments on my wedding picture and for participating in Show and Tell Friday.

Well, today is Sunday and it has been a great day. My DH and I went to church this morning where our pastor preached on Proverbs 3. He discussed how there are certain things that each individual values. He then began to talk about how as parents (or one-day in the future parents) we must have something of value to pass on to our children. He then laid out six values (from Proverbs 3) that we should have in our lives in order to pass on to our children.

The six values from Proverbs 3 were...

1. Obey the Word of God and He will bless you by extending the length of your days. (v. 1-2)

2. Remain faithful to the Lord and He will bless you. (v. 3-4)

3. Trust in the Lord instead of yourself and He will bless you by directing your steps. (v. 5-6)

4. Fear the Lord and turn away from sin and He will bless you. (v. 7-8)

5. Honor the Lord with your money and He will bless you. (v. 9-10)

6. Accept the Lord's discipline because it reveals a Father's love for His children. (v. 11-12)

God spoke to me during the message about my failure in some of these areas. For instance, God convicted me about my need to spend more time in His Word and to trust in Him to direct my life.

I just thought I would share what I learned today. I hope it is a blessing and encouragement to you. Have a blessed Sunday!

Show and Tell Friday (July 20th)...

I am so very happy that today is Friday, Show and Tell Friday. I several things that I would like to show; but, I figure that if I spread them out I will have several weeks of things to show. So, this week I am showing my new wedding photo and its frame.

My DH and I were married in May of 2006. However, due to the hectic nature of my life over the past year, I did not remember to call my photographer and order my 11"x14" until sometime in late April.

A few days before my DH and I left to go to Florida, my picture came. I was so excited that I brought my DH out that day to pick out a frame. It now hangs in the hallway and I get to pass it at least 50 times a day.

Dinner and a Movie...

Today was a good day. My DH and I just finished dinner (I know it is almost 10:00, that is not very good). However, we spent the late afternoon running errands and even though he offered to take me out to dinner, I just felt better about not spending the money since I had everything to make dinner. So, though we ate late, we did eat at home.

Anyway, on to something else. My DH and I are fixing to watch a disc in the Ken Burns Civil War documentary. My DH and I are both into the study of politics and I am a big Civil War and WWII information fan. If any of you are into to war documentaries, you should check it.

I hope that all of you had a great day. I look forward to Show & Tell Friday tomorrow.

I'm back again...

Hi everybody!

I do thoroughly apologize for very long absence. I have been gone for over a month and that is very long time. I really need to catch up with everybody and see how things are going.

As you know from my last post, I took a trip back "home" to Florida. My DH and I were gone for almost 4 weeks. The first week we spent visiting with his family. Then we went to my family's home. My DH had to go to Princeton for two weeks on business, so I stayed with my family. When my DH got back, we spent another week with my family.

It was so wonderful to see everybody. My sister brought me to the beach and we had such a good time playing in the Gulf. My mom and I recovered some chairs. I also spent two days with my Grandmother (aka Gram) while she taught me how to embroider. We worked on making an apron.

So, now that I am back in Texas, I will have to get back to posting.

I hope that you are having a wonderful day.

Show and Tell for the 15th...

I am joining in Kelli over at There is no place like home in her weekly Show and Tell Friday. This is my first time to participate and I am very excited to join in on the fun.

For Show and Tell this week, I would like to share a picture of a deer I saw earlier today. It was very exciting to see him on the side of the road at the State Park. My father-in-law stopped the car so I could get a picture of the deer. So here it is.

Diapers, Onesies, and Cake...

Today I hosted a Baby Shower for my dear friends K. She and I are really good friends and when she told she was expecting I told her that I wanted to throw her a shower. This is her second child and she is having another boy. So, the shower was not to big but as some would call it, it was a "sprinkle" of an event.

For favors I stacked three scented tea lights and wrapped them in colorful tissue paper and ribbon.

The menu consisted of apples and caramel dip, a veggie tray, a fruit tray, spinach dip and crackers, chips and french onion dip, chicken salad, and croissants.

This is a picture of the table after the shower was over, I forgot to take a picture before. Rats!

I made the cake myself and was really happy with the way that it turned out. Here are a few pictures of it.

I also tried a punch recipe from Paula Dean. Here is the recipe.

I did place a few balloons in the living room to give the house the party "feel".

For games we did the traditional word scrambles and trivia games. We also did the mommy's girth game. We also played a make the baby's picture game. In which guests create what they think the baby will look like by taking elements from baby pictures in magazines.

We had a really nice time. K gave me this picture frame as a hostess gift.

Guess Who I Am...

Mrs. Wilt, over at The Sparrow's Nest, had her results to a Jane Austin's Heroine Quiz. I decided to give the quiz a try.

I asked my DH if this was right and he said he thought it was a good match. So, I am Elinor Dashwood.

Go over to the quiz and see who you are.

A Restful Sunday...

Hi everyone! I hope that as the end of the weekend approaches, each of you can look back and say that you had a nice weekend.

I had a very nice weekend. Late yesterday morning, I had a meeting at my church about the summer programs for children in the church. Afterwards, my DH and I went out to lunch with our pastor 's family and another sweet family in our church. It was really nice to have the opportunity to fellowship with them.

Yesterday evening, my DH and I went over to some of our friends' house for dinner and a game of spades. We had a marvelous time, even though we did get beat pretty bad in spades.

This morning, we went to church and I was working in the nursery for the sermon. Afterwards, I came home and made chili for lunch. My DH and I spent the rest of the afternoon playing board games and calling our families.

It has been a truly wonderful and restful Sunday.
